Even though your application materials reflect your lifetime of experience, a few hours of interaction with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jobprofile.ch\/en\/job-profiling-recruitment\/\">recruiting<\/a> team often ends up being the determining factor in whether you actually get hired. So, clearly you need to stand out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To do that, it helps to be mindful of what recruiters and hiring managers are trying to accomplish with the interview and prepare accordingly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I will share with you regularly questions they want you to answer and advice on how to address them.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1724236173543{margin-top: 50px !important;}&#8221;]\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">\u201cWhat will it be like to work with you?\u201d<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One <strong>mistake<\/strong> job hunters often make is to treat interviews like exams \u2014 ones that they hope to ace, or at least not bomb.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People can\u2019t know from your r\u00e9sum\u00e9 or cover letter what it will be like to have you work for them. You want to demonstrate to your prospective employer that you will be a valuable colleague and someone with whom they will enjoy interacting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That means that a lot of what will determine the success of the interview is social. Yes, you need to be knowledgeable about your field, but you also need to help people picture you as a member of the team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The problem with this belief is that it assumes the interviewer is doing an assessment and looking for a correct answer, which can lead people to subconsciously slip into a too-adversarial stance or work too hard to reply with what they think their counterparts want to hear.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1724236322165{margin-top: 50px !important;}&#8221;]\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Engage the dialogue<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><b><\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you instead think about interviewers as someone looking to find potential colleagues, and the conversation as an opportunity for everyone to get to know one another, the relationship changes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You and the recruiter or hiring manager share the same goal, and your meeting becomes a joint problem-solving effort: <\/span><strong><i>Do we want to work together?<\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> You will probably display your expertise as you chat, but you will also be demonstrating your ability to establish a rapport.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another benefit to this approach is that it encourages greater synchronization between your and the interviewer\u2019s brains. This is something that happens in most conversations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People speak quickly to transmit information in a timely fashion, and your brain, to better understand what they are telling you, predicts the words, grammatical structure, and tone of voice they will use.
